Exercise Reduces Falls And Fractures
Regular exercise can significantly reduce the fracture risk of women over 65 years. This has been a study by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, to the 151 women participated with an average age of 68 years.
In all, 50 women took part once a week for an hour in a multi-function training with aerobics, balance training and functional strengthening. A further 50 women also completed in the last 15 minutes of training), leg strengthening exercises on a motorized rocker (vibration plate. The control group consisted of 51 women who only once a week in a gentle exercise and relaxation program participated. All the women took daily 1 500 milligrams of calcium and 400 international units of vitamin D. For one year, measured the change in bone density and the fall rate.
It appeared that increased in the two training groups, the bone density at the lumbar spine, especially among women with a classic multi-function training. In the control group, there was no change. In the hip region, the bone density remained after a report in the medical magazine “in both training groups constant in the control group had decreased, however. In women who completed vibration training, the fall rate was significantly lower than in the control group. Only a small difference in the falls could be established between the training group without vibration training and the control group.
